How to prepare for college tours

posted in: The College Search | 0

Research colleges, sign up for official tours & info sessions on college websites. Make good use of all the resources available to you. Actively seek out dates for college tours and info sessions by checking out different college websites. Taking this extra step can allow you to get familiar with different colleges and learn what each one has to offer.

If you get your feet on a campus, you can better understand the college’s atmosphere & personality. Don’t settle for what you read online about colleges or what you hear. Step foot onto the college campus to give yourself better clarity as to whether it’s the right fit for you. Going on college tours can give you a good idea about whether it’s an environment you want to be a part of for the next four years.

Tours give you an opportunity to meet students, see facilities & figure out if you would “fit” there. Talk to students, walk around the campus, eat in the dining halls to better glean the campus vibe. A first hand account can provide you with valuable information. Current college students can give you a pretty good idea as to what they think of the campus life, organizations, academics, sports, etc. Ask them questions!

We suggest appropriate colleges for students to tour. If your college list is pretty long, touring every single one may be unlikely or impractical. With our help, you can narrow down ideas as to which colleges you may want to personally visit.

We arm our students with tips & organizational tools to keep colleges straight in their mind as they tour. While touring, take the opportunity to learn as much as you can about the colleges. Imagine yourself on each campus and ask the questions that matter to you. After all, this will be your home for four years so YOUR needs trump everything else.
