Seniors: Help with starting UC apps

posted in: Seniors | 0

Fierce competition has made the UC’s what we call a “wildcard” when it comes to getting admitted. With thousands of applications being submitted from all over the US and the world, the UC admission reps have become more holistic and discerning. From skyrocketing test scores and GPAs, to unique extracurricular involvement, the competition to be a part of the UC system has become increasingly more difficult, especially in the past couple of years.

We help students understand why their courses in high school matter, and we direct them accordingly. The courses you choose have a HUGE impact on your college acceptance rate. We work with students to help them understand why their classes are important and how their grades and efforts in those classes can help them in the future.

Pay attention to every detail of your application. Although college applications can be long and tedious, make sure every component of the application is properly filled out. Leaving out important details may affect or delay your chances of getting accepted to these colleges. Examining your college essays for potential spelling or grammar errors, correctly filling out your completed courses, and detailing your extracurricular involvement completely are just some of the details that can make a huge difference in the end!

Work hard on your essays. College admission reps have thousands of applications to read so make sure your essay catches their attention from the start. A college essay is your main opportunity to really show college admission reps who you are, so speak from your heart. Make sure you dedicate enough time to write and rewrite multiple drafts until you’ve crafted something worthy of who you are!

We provide essay brainstorming and guidance throughout the writing process. Knowing how to start your college essay is a daunting roadblock causing many students to procrastinate. We learn a lot about our students while working with them throughout the process and we use this background knowledge to help brainstorm and develop various topics ideas. After all, a strong essay complements a solid college application and we want our students to be competitive applicants wherever they apply.
